Raiza Safiulla, an architect and urban designer, has made significant strides in the pursuit of sustainable urban solutions. Notable among her contributions is the presentation and publication of a paper titled “Mitigating Urban Heat Islands – A Case of Kochi” at the 18th National Conference on Technological Trends (NCTT) in 2017. This paper gained recognition and was featured in the IIA NATCON Journal 2017 during the Odisha event.
Continuing her exploration of urban heat island mitigation, Raiza presented another paper on “Mitigating Urban Heat Islands Through Manipulating Building Codes” at Metagreen Dimensions in 2018. Her involvement in coordinating the International Symposium for Tropical Urbanism further underscores her commitment to fostering a global perspective in urban design.
In her fourth-semester thesis project, “Mitigating Urban Heat Islands: Case of Marine Drive, Kochi,” Raiza conducted a comprehensive study exploring macro-level parameters affecting the heat island effect. Her proposed strategies, including modulation of city blocks and building configurations, aim to address this urban challenge.
